Hey Maygan,
ReplyDeleteKirstin here from the Texas Makeover(Kirstin & Tuff). You asked for some advice. First of all keep it real, don't expect your horse to be more than he is right now. Each of these horses will be at a different level so show what your horse is at his best, don't ask him to do something that he just isn't ready to do. Walk him around alot and get him used to the place early on.When you do the in hand course, remain calm and be patient with your horse. I tried 3 different times to back Tuff up in the L before he did it and it was one of the best backs of the show. I feel that my patience really paid off right there. If you make the finals, don't ask anything of Trigger that you are not 100% sure he can do. I saw a lot of the young horses freak out during the finals and not do what was asked of them. What Tuff & I did was quite simple but Tuff could do what I asked of him in his sleep and he did everything that I asked without hesitation. My goal going into this was making the top 10 and placing 6th overall was just the icing on the cake. I couldn't of been more proud of Tuff than I was that day-he was awesome. The most important piece of advice I can give you is to enjoy yourself, don't get all freaked out about things, the show will pass quickly enough and it will all be over with before you know it. I have a friend showing one of the older horses, her name is Karen Cooper. If you happen to see her will you tell her that Kirstin said HI! She is a great person and if you have any questions, she's the one to ask. She is very outgoing and will help in any way that she can. GOOD LUCK!!!
